| Brown feels heat as Libdems and Tories seek answer to West Lothian ...
It would give a sense of fairness and complete the devolutionary process. Having English MPs voting on laws that only pertain to England would address that sense of unfairness English MPs had when the Labour government got its way on tuition fees and foundation hospitals, only because Scottish MPs were able to vote on that, even though those laws would not apply in Scotland." Senior Labour politicians and Northern Ireland Unionists attacked the idea, which is likely to play into Mr Salmond's hands as he tries to wrest more power for Scotland from Westminster. Harriet Harman, Labour's deputy leader, warned that Sir Malcolm's proposals - first floated almost a decade ago in 1998 - threatened the unity of the United Kingdom. She said: "I don't think it is right to break up the United Kingdom, and that's where ultimately the suggestion of the Conservatives would go." Mr Salmond dismissed Sir Malcolm's plan, saying it did not go far enough.
Diana 'believed she would be bumped off'
I was more than nervous. If I had the material, I might have been bumped off as well." At Kensington Palace in February 1997, the Princess asked her to listen into a phone call she was on in which she was threatened over the landmine campaign, Miss Simmons said. "This person was saying to her that she shouldn't interfere in matters she knew nothing about," she said. .
July 2006
But I am learning to take things a little easier now that the kids are not along for the ride. The only night with more anticipation was Christmas Eve, we couldn’t sleep, we didn’t want to sleep, we just wanted to go. We wanted to get to the beach. This year is a little different, with us changing to a September visit, I almost feel a little anxiety. My mind is trying to tell me something but my body is not listening. I know in my head I should be packing the car, making last minute arrangements and checking to be sure I haven’t forgotten anything. I am especially antsy to get going this year since last summer I spent here at home after breaking my leg in 3 places. But at least this year, I am healthy, and ready to go.
Wild Card/Vacation Day 11 of 12
Only two more shopping days until I return to the final days of the City Council campaigns. Then, we'll have fun taking apart the campaigns. Any dirt yet? Any mudslinging. You know, the good stuff. Or is everyone behaving? My wife is now looking over my shoulder -- literally -- so I have to pretend that I'm just checking ball scores. See ya in two days. Here's Wild Card ... .
Chemistry rescues 'The Bucket List' from a terminal script
Though Cole is a cruel, egomaniacal billionaire, he nevertheless agrees to share a room with Carter because his snappy assistant, Thomas (Sean Hayes), has a mind for PR and doesn't believe Edward should face the media ramifications of breaking his golden rule — two beds to one room, always. Whether you buy into that or not, this contrivance nevertheless allows the two men to become friends. In the film's early scenes, it also allows for some genuine moments of kindness, reflection and manly bonding before — shazam! — the men are heroically well enough to jump out of airplanes, journey to the south of France for dinner, visit the Taj Majal, the Great Wall of China and the pyramids, and even climb the Himalayas, among other things, in spite of still sporting catheters. While there is a kind of fizzy, dreamlike joy to be had in watching these men live out their final days with the unlikely energy they have found to do so, anyone on intimate terms with cancer might be left lifting an eyebrow or two at the ease with which the director and writer overlook the realities of the disease.
